Recently someone said to me, \u201cHow cool that you get to do what you love. You’re really lucky.\u201d Yeah, it is cool and I do feel quite blessed.<\/p>\n
But, here\u2019s the deal: If you only do what you love, you\u2019ll go broke.<\/p>\n
You\u2019ve likely seen the Life Is Good<\/a> company’s motto, \u201cDo what you love. Love what you do.\u201d To me, the most important aspect of that motto is the second part.<\/p>\n If you truly want to do what you love, it is far more important to love what you do.<\/p>\n Perhaps you’ve heard the quote:<\/p>\n “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.”\u00a0 – Marc Anthony<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Here\u2019s a better version:<\/p>\n “Love what you do and you\u2019ll be doing what you love.”\u00a0 – David Crone<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The reality is that there will always be aspects of doing what you love that feel like work.<\/p>\n At every phase of my career, from software engineering, to systems and network operations, to management, to what I\u2019m doing now, I have always done what I love. But, it was only when I truly loved what I was doing that I saw success.<\/p>\n What would you love to do if you could?
