{"id":16,"date":"2013-09-17T16:33:59","date_gmt":"2013-09-17T20:33:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/workshouldbefun.wordpress.com\/?p=16"},"modified":"2013-09-17T16:33:59","modified_gmt":"2013-09-17T20:33:59","slug":"attitude-trumps-aptitude","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/WorkShouldBeFun.com\/blog\/attitude-trumps-aptitude\/","title":{"rendered":"Attitude trumps aptitude"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Which is more important to success, attitude or aptitude?<\/p>\n<p>My experience suggests that attitude trumps everything else.<\/p>\n<p>When I was a hiring manager, I often said that I hire for attitude and aptitude, then train for everything else.\u00a0 My logic was that hard skills can be trained, but attitude is much more difficult to influence, and aptitude simply &#8220;is&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of what makes work fun, attitude is everything. It is your attitude that allows you to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>pick yourself up when you fail.<\/li>\n<li>drive yourself to develop new skills.<\/li>\n<li>push through difficulties to pursue excellence.<\/li>\n<li>deal with the inevitable disappointments along the way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Based on stories of those who have overcome amazing odds to pursue dreams and passions after being told, &#8220;You&#8217;ll never be able to do that.&#8221; I have come to believe that even aptitude can be developed with the right attitude.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Which is more important to success, attitude or aptitude?
